BRIGHT GAMA

In April 1994 we went to second hand dealer to look at a Landrover. While we were examining the Landrover a black man arrived and the car salesman introduced him to us as Bright Gama of Malawi.

The moment I met him the Lord spoke into my heart. I knew I did not come for the Landrover but for this African man. I invited him to our house for Lunch. We had the most wonderful time of sharing and we were astonished at the things he was telling us. There was so much to talk about that we invited him to be our guest for the duration of his visit to South Africa. As I listened to Bright Gama a New World opened up before me. A world so devastating but also a world so hungry for Jesus Christ and the Word of God. As I was listening to the needs and desperate cry of this man for his Nation a desire grew within me to be able to reach out to these people in their great need.
Bright Gama told us about the need of the people not only to be saved but to be taught in the Truths of God’s word, so that they can become strong, mature children of God. His plea was that we would come and help his nation before corruption overtake them and destroy them like most of the other nations around them. He told us that they needed our knowledge about the word of God and other practical things more than they needed money – we need what God has put in you.

I was reminded of Matt. 8: 19 & 20 were he writes:
“Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Chost, teachng them to observe everything that I have commanded you and lo I am with you always even unto the end of the world.” (KJ)

Bright Gama left but his memory did not leave us. I could not forget this humble man who walked into my life and disturbed my peace. Malawi and Bright Gama was indelibly imprinted in my heart and mind. We were equipped to teach God’s word and I new that God was calling us but we didn’t know how we would be able to fulfil this call.

I could not forget this man and I started reading and praying for Malawi. God was busy preparing me to go to Malawi and serve Him there
A year later we were travelling to Malawi to answer the call that God has placed on our hearts.
We learned another lesson, “what God calls for, God supply’s for”.

I nearly died of Malaria and in a miraculous way we met Pastor Charles Kalinde.
Through the people of Malawi God planted compassion in my heart for the nations that would grew to full maturity as time passed.
It was not a surprise to me when God created the opportunity for us to go to Malawi as Missionaries and we stayed there for one and a half years. We hardly arrived when the Landrover broke. It was very difficult without transport walking where we needed to be. I had to learn to get along with the minimum, being satisfied with very little and there I met Seleza who changed my life forever.
